St Edward's Closely Knit

The Closely Knit group meets most Saturdays in St Edward’s Church between 10.00 am and noon, where we knit, crochet or produce crafts, chat, drink coffee or tea and often eat home-made cake or biscuits…….
Anyone who would like to join the group is welcome to come along any Saturday morning or, if you prefer, to talk to someone first please contact Diane on 07957 231693.
Closely Knit hopes to raise £32,000 during 2026 so that the Parochial Church Council can pay for repairs to the winding mechanism and to regild the clock face, known as Little Ed. (see further details below)

Tick tock! A campaign is underway to save St Edward’s clock. London may have Big Ben but Stow has Little Ed! And Little Ed – our town clock – is in desperate need of a facelift and an update to his clockworks! The clock sits proudly on our church tower but it’s looking a little sad. It would be wonderful if, in this 550 Anniversary year of our town charter, we could restore some civic pride in the town square by restoring our beautiful clock. Work to update the clock face and mechanism will cost around £32,000 with experts needing to abseil down the church tower to remove the clock face for repairs.

The ladies of Closely Knit – who meet for a knit and a chat in the church from 10am on Saturday mornings – have chosen to knit for Little Ed this year. They say ‘Our church clock is at the heart of our town and is loved by residents and visitors. We are determined to help restore our clock to its former glory.’

We hope that townspeople, shops, businesses - and anyone who loves Stow and the Cotswolds - will support the campaign to give 'Little Ed' an update for the 21st Century.

You can donate at https://givealittle.co/c/StowClock.

Or leave a cheque (payable to ‘PCC Stow on the Wold’) in the red safe just inside the church door, in an envelope marked ‘Clock Fund’.

If you are a UK taxpayer, just use one of the Gift Aid envelopes available in the church and fill in your details (please mark it ‘Clock Fund’) – it increases the donation by 25%.

Thank you for your support. Tick tock for our clock!
